The Fitness Attendant at the Richmond Olympic Oval (“Oval”) plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for all members and guests. This position provides support on the fitness floor by greeting patrons, assisting with equipment use, and encouraging proper technique. Fitness Attendants also help keep the facility clean, ensure policies are followed, and promote Oval programs and services to support member success and enjoyment.

Key Responsibilities

Member Engagement & Customer Service

    • Welcome, greet, check-in, and assist patrons.
    • Provide adult and youth fitness centre orientations.
    • Offer safe and effective instruction on all cardiovascular and strength equipment.
    • Provide feedback on exercise technique when appropriate.
    • Provide safe and effective strength training spotting assistance as required.
    • Promote fitness and wellness services, member challenges, workshops, and special programs.
    • Conduct member consultations and support conversion to personal training and/or programs and services.
    • Respond to member questions and resolve minor concerns professionally.

Facility Safety & Operations

    • Enforce Oval facility and fitness centre policies.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility.
    • Conduct equipment cleaning, sanitizing, and general maintenance routines.
    • Perform daily equipment safety checks.
    • Provide first aid for minor injuries and complete incident reports as required.
    • Monitor and record daily fitness centre usage.
    • Support equipment installations, setup, and extraction.

Administrative Support

    • Complete daily shift tasks, record keeping, and checklists.
    • Maintain accurate documentation including visitation statistics
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

    • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
    • Required certifications (First Aid, CPR-C, AED, Weight Training/PT designation).
    • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment within established policies.
    • Successful Criminal Record Check.
    • Ability to work evenings, weekends, this may include opening and closing shifts, flexible hours as required.

Preferred:

    • Minimum 1 year experience in a fitness or recreation setting.
    • Additional fitness certification (e.g. Personal training or Group Fitness field).

 

Compensation range: $25.15 - $37.26 (pay scale currently under review) as per the Collective Agreement, plus 12% in lieu of benefits (hourly rate is based on qualifications and experience)

Availability: Shifts vary but will include early mornings, evenings and weekends
