
General Fitness Instructor

A Fitness Instructor at the Richmond Olympic Oval (“Oval”) is responsible for designing and delivering dynamic group fitness classes aimed at improving the health, wellness, and fitness levels of Oval members. This role involves leading safe, effective, and engaging sessions while offering expert guidance on proper exercise techniques. The instructor actively promotes a healthy lifestyle, provides ongoing motivation, and fosters a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
Key Responsibilities

- Plan and lead a variety of group fitness classes, including strength training, indoor cycle, cardio, flexibility, and functional movement, ensuring exercises are performed safely and effectively.
- Monitor participants during classes to ensure proper technique, providing modifications to meet different fitness levels and physical limitations.
- Ensure studio equipment is set up and used correctly, report any issues, and help maintain equipment in good working order.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive class environment that encourages participant engagement.
- Enforce safety and injury-prevention procedures; report any accidents and complete incident documentation as required.
- Provide first-aid treatment as necessary and coordinate additional care when required.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:

- Current Training Certification from a recognized body such as ACE, NASM, CFP, CSEP, or equivalent.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate from a recognized provider, with CPR-C and AED Certification.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in personal training or group fitness instruction.
- Strong understanding of human anatomy, exercise physiology, and movement patterns.
- Successful completion of Criminal Record Check.

- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction to a variety of fitness levels and participant needs.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service and fostering member retention.

Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation range: $42.63 - $56.84 as per the Collective Agreement, plus 12% in lieu of benefits (hourly rate is based on qualifications and experience)
