The Richmond Olympic Oval is seeking a passionate individual with a love of skating and a sound coaching background. This position is focused on helping individuals ages 6 to 12 develop fundamental skating skills in a fun and safe environment. This position is specific to Spring Break Camps, with the possibility for assisting with additional seasonal programs.
Your core responsibilities include:

- Working in a team environment to ensure the participant has a safe and positive experience while at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
- Monitoring and maintaining the integrity, appearance, and safety of all Oval sport equipment and surroundings.
- Responsible for the safety and progressive instruction of Learn to Skate camps and programs based on the objectives of the specific programs as well as Long Term Athlete Development Model/Sport for Life.
- Coaching and instructing activities and lessons with enthusiasm, and adjusting activities based on age, skill and athletic levels for students to develop basic fundamental skating skills
- Providing exceptional customer service, communication and feedback with participant and parents.
- Ensure general program readiness including equipment lists, lesson plans, games and activities for a range of abilities
- Reporting and communicating feedback to the Sport Camp Programmer and Head Coach, Community Sport.
- Other camp related tasks as assigned.
- Evaluate athlete abilities and maintain records of the skills of skaters
- Compliant with program policies and procedures (attendance, report cards, radios, first aid, etc)
Availability:
Must be available to work Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm from March 16 to March 27, 2026.
Hours will vary after March 27, 2026.
The qualifications and skills you bring to this role include:

- A love for working with children!
- Exceptional customer service interactions
- Background and knowledge in skating is required. Additional knowledge in Hockey or Figure Skating is an asset
- Experience delivering high quality, progressive skating instruction to athletes ages 3 to 12
- Experience working with children in a sport camp or related setting as a leader or volunteer
- Ability to assess and evaluate athlete’s fundamental movement skills and as well as specific skating skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Optimistic, passionate and personable
- Responsible and dependable
- Must be able to successfully complete a criminal record check
- Valid Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED Certificate
- Preference may given to candidates with additional sport skills and/or experience. Please list all sport experience in application
- Participation or graduation in a recognized, sport related post-secondary program is an asset
- Sport Specific NCCP Certificates an asset
- NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills, High Five, Kids Can Move, or Run Jump Throw, or equivalent training an asset
- Safe Sport education is a requirement of the role which you must complete within 3 months of start date if you are the successful candidate
Compensation range: $18.64 to $27.32 plus 12% in lieu (hourly rate is based on qualifications and experience)
