Position: Operations Worker

Job Summary

Examples of Work

1. Operates the facility as assigned, and in a safe and efficient manner
2. Monitors, and as required operates equipment and direct digital controls (DDC) systems related to refrigeration, mechanical/HVAC, lighting and other building controls/systems as assigned
3. Performs minor and/or routine maintenance and repair throughout the facility, including equipment and assets
4. Responds to facility, equipment and/or asset issues, prioritizing work in order to maintain a safe environment for staff and users
5. Performs planned preventative maintenance and equipment/asset leadership as assigned
6. Safely operates, maintains and services ice resurfacers and ice making equipment
7. Inspects, maintains and services sport and field-of-play equipment as required
8. Maintains and delivers first-class ice conditions specific to the needs of each program and/or sport
9. When applicable, participates in ice in/out procedures and sport/logo application/removal
10. Monitors, and as required operates the refrigeration ice plant in a safe and efficient manner
11. Performs refrigeration ice plant maintenance as assigned and within the permissions of certification via Technical Safety British Columbia (TSBC)
12. As assigned, performs low voltage and minor electrical work within the permissions of certification via TSBC
13. Keeps accurate records, including, but not limited to daily logs, equipment usage reports, maintenance records and incident reporting
14. Uses computer applications as required
15. Drives vehicles as required and/or assigned, including (but not limited to) ice resurfaces, maintenance & utility vehicles, forklifts, scissor lifts and boom lifts
16. Performs facility and equipment conversions as required
17. Assists event and frontline services as required
18. Performs custodial/cleaning duties as required and/or assigned
19. Establishes and maintains liaison with community groups, program partners and others to assess needs of the community and appropriate responses to the needs
20. Communicates and collaborates with staff to review and evaluate the effectiveness, safety and efficiencies of work assignments
21. Communicates with and assists contractors and external service providers as required
22. Ensures that Health and Safety policies (as well as general operating & safety procedures) are followed at all times
23. Responds to facility emergencies and assists first responders as required
24. Deals proactively, tactfully and courteously in all situations, providing exceptional care, support and services to all Oval stakeholders
25. Provides multi-department support and other duties as assigned

Your schedule at the Oval will look like: Must have ability to work weekday days and weekend evenings. Current and/or future flexibility in availability an asset.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work in all types of indoor & outdoor year-round climate conditions
• Must be able to be stand and/or walk for extended and/or full periods of shifts
• Must be able to meet ongoing physical demands of work, including safe lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, reaching, etc.
• Must be able to consistently lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Safe use of vehicles and equipment as required
• Independent and team work

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills: 

• Completion of Grade 12
• Refrigeration Operator (RO) Certificate or 4^th Class Power Engineer Certificate issued by TSBC
• BC Driver’s License
• Forklift Operator Certificate
• Boom/Aerial Lift Operator Certificate
• Fall Protection Certificate
• Safe and skilled ice resurfacer operator
• Safe and skilled knowledge and ability in all aspects of ice making
• Operating knowledge and ability to use all types of building maintenance equipment
• Ability to safely perform ongoing physical aspects of the job
• Proficient with computers and capable to operate DDC systems related to refrigeration, HVAC/mechanical and lighting
• Excellent oral & written language skills, with ability to perform and maintain accurate reports, logs and other critical communications as required
• Ability to communicate and deliver outstanding customer service/experience to all stakeholders
• Ability to perform and thrive independently and as part of a team
• Must be able to complete and maintain a successful criminal record check
• All qualifications listed must be maintained in good standing during the life of employment

• WHIMIS Training & Certificate
• Valid Standard First Aid and AED Certification
• Experience working with high performance athletes and local sporting organizations

Compensation:

$38.60-$41.57 per hour based on qualification as per the Collective Agreement.
